I fell asleep watching tv and woke up to this. I went outside and watched with Giuliana, Alessandra and the other neighbors for a bit. It’s 1:30 am here now, and this is what i’m going to be hearing for the rest of the night…

This jar is used to catch mosquitos. Maybe we can get one for our yard too?
This is the hugest beetle we’ve ever seen, twice as big as the one we found in our basement in February.
Today we drove up, up, up, to the highest village in the valley, Colognora, to find this museum, whose sign by the highway we noticed when we first arrived two weeks ago. It’s really only open on Sundays but Jenn found the curator and got him to open it up for us today along with a private tour!

Apparently, there will be lots of activity on the street tonight.
Signs along the road say that our street will be closed from 00:30 to 09:00 on Sunday, but since yesterday there have been check points set up and people practicing driving fast on this rather narrow winding road. Eeks. Staying home for dinner.

Es schauen die Blumen alle
Zur leuchtenden Sonne hinauf;
Es nehmen die Ströme alle
Zum leuchtenden Meere den Lauf.
Es flattern die Lieder alle
Zu meinem leuchtenden Lieb –
Nehmt mit meine Tränen und Seufzer,
Ihr Lieder, wehmütig und trüb!
I have been trying to get to Bagni di Lucca ever since we first looked at Pieve di Cerreto. A couple of times we’ve driven through the town. In May, we actually parked and walked around, and tried to walk up to the Terme. Today, with Jenn’s get-up-and-go, we finally made it. And I discovered we had almost made it in May, we were only about 100 ft away when we turned back from exhaustion! And, Bella and I discovered the much faster foot path that cuts straight up the mountain, direct to the spa. Much quieter and nicer than Montecatini.
vernazza was beautiful, but definiitely go any month other than july or august.
