I’ve been to La Torre Pendente three different times (October 06 with Katya, November 06 with David, May 07 with Amy) and have not climbed up yet. Maybe this time!

a little history about our church
And some information about this Countess Matilda of Tuscany:
Born 1046, died 24 July 1115. She is one of the few medieval women to be remembered for her military accomplishments. She is called “of Canossa” after the ancestral family castle of Canossa, but she is just as well known as Matilda of Tuscany.
Isabella and I are going to be in Europe from 12 July to 20 August. We’re flying in and out of Amsterdam, then we’ll be making our way to Italy and back again. If you’re in Europe too, let us know! Places I’d like to see on this trip: Modena, Siena, Cinque Terre…
I admit it – I’m a freak – a total hot springs freak. I was first turned onto natural hot springs on my first desert camping trip around Thanksgiving 2003. I have bought books and maps and seek at every opportunity to incorporate stops at hot springs in my itinerary.
When we first started planning our July trip to Tuscany, Carolyn said “Maybe we can go to some of the hot springs this time.” That got my attention – I’ve been researching on the web, but am not finding nearly as much information about natural hot springs in Italy as I can find for California. In fact, I am finding a lot more about spas and places where people wear swimsuits (ick!).
A couple of links have been providing some good information, though. Slow Travel has a whole page on Hot Springs in Tuscany, as well as sites of ancient baths. I’m putting together some links on my del.icio.us account – and will keep adding things here as I come across them.
Meanwhile – how utterly insanely FUN does this look?
