birra di farro

Farro della Garfagnana, that is. Italy is not known for its beer, though I have found a few excellent interesting microbrews. Our local Self Service (not) market used to carry some excellent chestnut beers made nearby, but haven’t had them for over a year now. They replaced it with something else that was a lot more experience and not nearly as good or interesting.

This trip, we’ve discovered the inCoop nearby in Fornoli. They have a lot of organic and interesting food, and craving beer tonight, I hoped they’d have something good. Indeed! It definitely has the feel of a wheat beer, but not nearly as sweet. I like it — it’s an extremely tasty light beer, made from farro, a popular local grain similar to wheat.

And now that we have our new frigo, we can buy perishable food and cook and keep the leftovers! Tonight we picked up some locally made ravioli from inCoop and made a sauce from tomatoes, basil and garlic, and tossed in some fresh mozzarella. I had picked up a couple baby zucchini with flowers at the farmer’s market yesterday, and fried those up with a polenta-rosemary batter, stuffing the flowers with pecorino.

Discovered this today in the building near the Wall at Porta Santa Anna, which was a chapel last time I walked by.

bella makes dinner

Tonight’s dinner is just a snack, then I’m crashing. We picked up some Prosciutto toscana, fresh local mozzarella, pesto, focaccia, tomatoes and fresh basil from the garden, then Bella made me these lovely little bruschetta for us
